Hunt museum project

Our hunt museum project is to pick a work in the museum and make a partner for it. I picked a Necklace that is from the iron age for my project. It is made out of glass or stone and is European.
I picked this as i loved the design on it. I also got loads of ideas by just looking at it in the museum. I want to make the necklace really big and i also want to make something with wire and wax as i have never used those two materials together and want to experiment with them.

The Horses Ear

I made a horses ear with wire and brown tape. i used tape because i wanted to use something different rather than paper and cardboard. I had leaves in the ear. Each leave had a word on it to show what i hear when im on the horse. If i was to do it again i would put a speak or something like that instead of the leaves.

The Horses leg

I made a horses hind leg. It was 83cm (half my height) and it is apart of the 'self doll' brief which i spoke about in my last post. This leg fits in with the 'self doll' part as the hind leg is the strongest part of the horse and horse riding has made me strong and my confidence had grown from it. I used a bandage material to make the leg as it is the fabric that makes all sorts of bandages, not just for cuts. Out of the 3 self dolls i made i believe this is the most successful.

SELF DOLL!!

Our new brief is really interesting. We have to make a 'doll' that has some of our personality/characteristics in it but its not ment to look like some barbie thing. Oh and it has to be half my height, thats the only rule.
So i came up with the idea for my project that i will make a horse with my head on it. Im going with this idea because i love horses and but i never just wanted to make a horse i wanted it to be more about me.
I have it nearly finished. Im making it out of cardboard as i was looking at alot of artists that work with cardboard. Its held together with staples and glue.
Photos are finally here :)

One Day Project

So we had our one day project on monday and it was to create a new measurement. At first i was so confused. I ended up going back to kiss prints. I measured my head, table and hand in kisses. It was a really fun project and got me thinking. It also made me work hard because we only had a day to do it.
Hand = 59 kisses
Table length = 29
My Head = 16

Hand Prints

Since i finished my head with hands i still wanted to work with hands as i found them interesting so i thought on how to transform the hands itself. I ended up with the idea of adding fingers or taken away them. With only a short time to do it i got brown paper and white paint and started printing my hand but adding extra prints or holding a few fingers back and then priinting.

Collage book, head with hands

I made a wee collage book so that i would be able to transform bodys with paper before making things 3D. At the start of the book the collages are crap but as i got into it they became more interesting. I ended up with favourites like a girl with loads of eyes on her face, a body with a eye as a head but the one that was most exciting was the head with hands as hair.

From this image i made a head out of paper mache and stuck hands where the hair was ment to be. Today i painted the rest of it skin colour but it still looks crap. it never turned out the way i wanted to but im fixing that at the moment. Today i also cut out loads of eyes, noses, skin, eyebrows and mouths as i am going to make the face of the head with a collage of little body parts.

TRANSFORM!!

My brief is about the human body and re-designing it. I choose the word transform and came up with a few ideas on how to transform the human body. Although the human body has many exciting features to transform i choose ribs as i thought they were very interesting to look at as the shape of the ribs are very exciting.

When thinking of ideas to transform the ribs i thought of twisting, expanding, shortening and changing the complete look and scuture of them.

I made a rib cage out of wire but it was too plan and boring for me so i got some old tights from the two week electives and woven the coloured tights around the wire. I like they way it turned out but it wasn't enough. I wanted something more. So i got the idea to stick pins in it. I ended up loving them then. it made them allot more exciting and less 'pretty'.

After that was done i made another pair only this time the ribs were turned out words. I covered news paper and tape. I was confused for a while on what to use. i was going to use plaster but my tutors suggested that i could use white paint. When i painted it it was way to white and 'perfect' looking so one of my friends gave me white spray pain that was a different shade of white so it made them look a wee bit rougher.

These picture are of the first set of ribs i done
